Group History

The 56th Toronto Scouts has been part of Midtown Toronto for more than 60 years, offering youth a place to learn, grow, and explore the outdoors. In 2023, the 56th merged with the 93rd Toronto Scouts to create one of the most vibrant and active groups in the city.

Our roots stretch back to St. Leonard’s Anglican Church at Yonge and Lawrence, where generations of Scouts first gathered. Today, our home is shared between Melrose Community Church and Glenview Presbyterian Church, welcoming youth ages 5–18 from across the community.

With more than 60 youth involved across our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers sections, we are proud to offer a full Scouting program for every age group. Each section provides opportunities for youth to challenge themselves, gain confidence, and make lasting friendships.

We embrace a “No One Left Behind” model of Scouting, ensuring every young person has the chance to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. Fundraising traditions like Apple Day, Christmas Tree sales, and Fert ’n’ Dirt help make this possible, while teaching our youth the importance of service and community spirit.

Our leadership team is made up of volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Together, they’ve logged hundreds of camps and adventures, and they bring that knowledge and passion to every meeting, hike, and trip — ensuring that Scouting remains a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for every youth who joins.
